By June of 1977, several of his viral diagnostic assays were FDA-approved and ready for marketing to hospitals and clinical laboratories.The first commercially available test for diagnosing the Epstein-Barr virus infection was developed by him. Amazing! Dr.Wentz sold his controlling stake in Gull Laboratories in 1992 and used his profits to establish USANA Health Sciences, a state-of-the-art manufacturer of nutritional and vitamin supplements.
Dr. Wentz first love is being a scientist not a business man though he has been very successful in his businesses. Despite his interests, his business skills have been recognized through the Utah Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for 2003 and a Presidential appointment as advisor to Small Business Administration.
