Dr Wentz is a bachelor degree holder in biology with a master’s in microbiology and a Ph.D in microbiology and immunology from Central College in Naperville, Illinois, University of North Dakota and University of Utah respectively.
Joining a pathology group in Peoria, Illinois, Dr. Wentz served as infectious diseases specialist and directed the microbiology and immunology laboratories for three hospitals in the Peoria area.
He made much needed contributions to medical science by developing vital tests for viral diseases after three years of clinical experience.His schooling evidently was creating a path for him.
Interestingly, Dr. Wentz unlike his brilliant scientists possessed a strong entrepreneurial spirit too. He launched Gull Laboratories in 1974 and operated it single-handedly. The FDA approved many of his viral diagnostic assays in June of 1977 which were readied for marketing to clinical laboratories and hospitals.He was instrumental in developing the Epstein-Barr virus infection test as the first commercially available test. Incredible! Dr.Wentz sold his controlling stake in Gull Laboratories in 1992 and used his profits to establish USANA Health Sciences, a state-of-the-art manufacturer of nutritional and vitamin supplements.
Dr. Wentz is focused on being a scientist rather than a business man despite his obvious success in businesses. Nonetheless, Dr. Wentz’ business acumen has been recognized through a Presidential appointment as an advisor to the Small Business Administration and as a 2003 recipient of the Utah Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.

His first job was innovating an amazingly successful network marketing program that generated incredible profits.
